The inaugural Grand Annual Eisteddfod of Australasia was held in 1891 right here in Ballarat, attracting some 260 entrants who performed across 10 days of competition. Is it possible organisers then, dared to imagine, that their vision for fostering the performing arts would continue into the twenty first century?

Over the last 129 years we have been running our wonderful competitions, only once have we had to cancel the Eisteddfod (during WW2), so this certainly is challenging times for everyone and South Street as we all navigate the changing conditions of COVID -19 on our community and the world.
The South Street team have been working hard to find alternative safe options for competitions in 2020, including video entries across some disciplines in place of live performances. Unfortunately, with the ever evolving covid-19 landscape, it made it impossible to coordinate either in some circumstances and this has meant a cancellation of all live performances for 2020.
We are very excited to still be offering some disciplines via video entries for adjudication in 2020, Vocal video entries are now open for submission and will close on the 22nd August. Keep an eye out for further updates on other disciplines.
We hope that 2021 will be an amazing year of competitions and the South Street team are now busy planning for the year ahead. Thank you again for your support and we look forward to seeing you in 202
