My names Ashleigh and I have recently become a volunteer with Royal South Street Society.

I am originally from Alice Springs in the Northern Territory. From a young age I completed in the Centralian Eisteddfod in Speech & Drama and Music (school choir) and later dance. After I finished competing in the Centralian Eisteddfod in Alice Springs, I still wanted to be involved and so volunteered & assisted backstage with performers as well as ushering patrons.

I have done classical ballet since the age of 5 till I was 18 and often competed in many classical solos. I loved competing and enjoyed performing on stage.

I moved to Melbourne in 2005, wanting to experience life in the city. I danced at the Closing Ceremony of the Commonwealth Games in 2006 which was quite an experience. I was a sweetheart girl and the tribute of Melbourne City during the closing was spectacular.

My husband, our 2 small children and I moved to Ballarat in 2021, seeking a tree change. Being from a country town of Alice Springs, I really was attracted to the community aspect of Ballarat not to mention the history! I love all the old buildings around and we love to go for weekend drives and explore the surrounds of Ballarat.

We have purchased land in Lucas and currently building our family home. We hope to move in June.

When I’m not being a mum, I’m a swim teacher at Shayne Reese Swimming where our children are also students. I teach the Lil Dippas classes (3 year olds) as well as evening classes for school age children. Again, I love being involved with the community and working in such a reputable business.

I decided to become a volunteer with RSSS after watching the Begonia Festival Parade this year and seeing the members.

I look forward to being part of the Ballarat community and be able to give something back. I find this extremely fulfilling.
