Rebecca Tully (nee Jones) competed at Royal South Street Society Ballarat Eisteddfod in Calisthenics from 1996 to 2024, Bands from 2004 to 2007 and Debating from 2004 to 2008.
Here’s what Rebecca had to say about her experience with Royal South Street Society;
Calisthenics has had an immense effect on who I am due to 20 years of teamwork, being able to explore the performer and artist in me and keep fit as well as the excitement of yearly competing at RSSS. However, being a champion debater has given me life-long skills in public speaking, research, elocution, and confidence. Debate is an incredible skill where you not only have to know your topic inside and out but have to use psychology and quick thinking to construct your argument against the other team. This has served me well from job interviews to having the confidence to always try new things. Winning RSSS debate challenges was a key achievement during high school and opened student opportunities for me. During my time at Royal South Street Society, I was also thrilled to appear more than 5 times in the Ballarat Courier as they highlighted my various achievements. I have also been a volunteer for RSSS for just over 15 years now.
Rebecca’s favourite stories and memories from her time at RSSS are;
Winning 7 out of 7 items to take out the Juniors Calisthenics Aggregate undefeated.
Winning the aggregate with the first Jayde Masters team to compete at RSSS.
Winning the Mars Debating Challenge Cup.
First chairing clarinet for the BHS band and performing a solo piece.
