Former Ballarat Grammar students Shimona Rose Thevathasan and Peter Toohey will present an afternoon of piano and voice at the Ballarat Anglican Cathedral Synod Hall, Lydiard St South on Saturday 22 of August at 2pm.
After graduating from the Melbourne Conservatorium, Shimona continued her vocal studies at the Royal College of Music in Londo where she was awarded a distinction for her Master of Performance. She is an accomplished performer and recitalist who has been the recipient of many awards including the 2024 Pendine International Voice of the Future. her performances have included work with the Singapore Lyric Opera, New Opera Singapore and Melbourne Opera.
Peter Toohey is an accomplished Melbourne-based pianist, teacher, examiner, and Head of Keyboard and Music Theatre at Lauriston Girls School. He completed his Bachelor and Master degrees in Music at the University of Melbourne under Ian Holtham, before furthering his studies in London and Vienna with distinguished mentos including Peter Feuchtwanger, Joan Havill, Christopher Elton and Mrtin Hughes. An active force in the arts community, Peter’s extensive performance career spans solo recitals, concerto appearances and collaborations with some of Australia’s most celebrated musicians both locally and internationally.
